Just when I thought I was out ....
Things I could be doing with my time:
Ab workout - I got slack over the dark, and I felt it last night on trapeze.
Building a new trapeze, though that would involve going into work early.
Juggling
Learning Russian

What I am doing with my time:
Drawing up a db schema for a perl script to track my jogging performance.

*sigh*
Of course, I should extend it to handle lifting performance as well. If I'm going to bother.

Except, of course, it doesn't do what I want :)
But a spreadsheet might indeed be easier.
I break my runs into various stages - I want to be able to track individual stage performance as well as overall times.

Though now I have the fun of working out at what point multiple queries become more or less efficient than sorting in perl.

Why do I even care?

Sort in anyway which is easier for you to write.
Refactor when it is a problem.

You can probably wait the 4 seconds for the dance of joy or sadness, it will give you a chance to catch you breath.

Spreadsheets can be an easier form of data entry though and there will be something in CPAN which will allow you read it if your reports get beyond something manageable in the speadsheet language.

Yeah, as soon as I posted I thought "Premature optimisation is the root of all wossname". *Then* I thought "Actually, I can split routes and times into seperate tables, and use Third Normal ... FUCK!"

Yep. Use the google spreadsheet doc to enter and store your raw data, and if you need something more interesting for reporting than you can do in a spreadsheet, you can export to CSV pretty trivially to generate reports off the data.

Data entry != reporting, keep them clearly separate in terms of functionality.
